Bee Meetup | Home

Travis and I have been wanting to keep bees for some time, and since we now have ranch land we can use, we have decided to go ahead and make that dream happen. We have been reading books about beekeeping, mainly The Thinking Beekeeper, and have decided to go with a top bar hive. To start getting some local information though, we joined the local bee Meetup here in Austin. Tonight was our first attendance!

I have to say that I was amazed by how many people turned up. We were nearly 100 people there, all interested in bees. Everyone was represented, from elderly folks to children, from a mail lady to hipsters to a Harley guy. It felt incredible that bees could bring all of us together. Some of us were new and hive-less (like us), and others were professional beekeepers. There were little representation of top bars, but we were not alone.

We learned so much and took lots of notes. We left the meeting even more excited about getting bees next spring – and thankful to have such a great resource available locally. I can’t wait for the next meeting!
