Remember Shiso’s first hike? Well, this was pretty much the same, except that there was snow!
It was so peaceful up on Knox Mountain today, with dramatic skies over the gun metal coloured lake and white hills. Shiso was so happy to be running around off leash – her first off leash hike with us! She was a real champ and stayed close by, but also spent a lot of time playing around and eating snow. She even took a pretty awesome jump, where she looked real proud of herself until she landed head first in the snow.
For those who do not know, Shiso had received very little training from her previous owner and she is not the easiest dog. She was anxious, unsocial, alpha, aggressive, leash pulling and leash reactive, barking and whining dog – she had never had her own toys and didn’t know how to cuddle or accept affection. We worked really hard to turn things around, but recently Shiso started training and it has been life changing for her and us. We still have a long road ahead of us, but to be able to go off leash with her today: well, that just speaks volume about her progress.
This hike was quite incredible: aside from Shiso being such a good dog, the weather was perfect, there wasn’t any wind, the snow wasn’t too deep, and there was hardly anyone around. There is one thing though that really stands out about this hike: previous hikers had decorated some trees along the way with Christmas ornaments. It was so beautiful to see, and so unexpected – it was too bad that I had a full memory card, no backup and a dying battery by that point!
