One of the items on my 101 things to do list was to eat exotic meat in Africa, and I got to do it today in the form of springbok biltong. Biltong is a sort of meat jerky popular in South Africa, and it is really tasty (and addictive!). Springbok may not be such an exotic meat as, say, lion or zebra, but I had never eaten this type of antelope before.
So, how was is? Well, I actually didn’t like it at all. The meat tasted sour, and so I thought that I had found the first type of meat ever that I didn’t like. And I love meat!
Note from the future: I ate springbok again later and it tasted just fine. I also got to eat ostrich (which I had eaten previously) in South Africa, as well as crocodile (which I had eaten previously), kudu and nyala on our trip to Zimbabwe.
