Onto a different type of island | Japan

Our next island stop was Miyajima, famed for its floating tori gate. I had been there on my previous trip, and I had really liked it out there. This time though we were lucky enough to find a really great hostel to stay at – the hostel and the people there were definitively one of the highlight of our time in Miyajima.

Having a JR rail pass meant that the ferry to the island was free for us, so after dropping our bags off we headed to the island (Miyajima is both the mainland and the island). I was excited to show Travis around, and find out if the wild deer population had gotten even crazier. We were there after all of the temples had closed, so we just walked around instead and left after the sunset.

Tomorrow: more temples, more walking, more fun!
