4:35 AM – Montreal
I’m through customs! I’d be a lot more excited, relieved and grateful if I wasn’t so darned sleep-deprived. The custom agent let us in without any question aside from “where is home” and “where are you going”, so that was nice. After scanning my passport he looked at the screen and shrugged, so it looks as though there could have been a lot more trouble for us but he chose to ignore it. Thank you Mr. customs agent!
9 AM – Chicago
Nice airport, but we had to exit the security gates to go to the international terminal. This terminal has only crappy food (had to eat a McGriddle, yuk!) and nothing opened… and we’ve got nowhere to go until our flight to Narita. And no free wifi 😦
What time is it anyway? – JAL
The plane to Japan is nice. It will probably turn out to be the best flight of our trip, since everybody is so polite and mindful of their personal space. Only whispers are uttered. Not a child making a peep. It is a 12h long flight though, and we’ve had very little sleep… I’m starting to ache all over, I’m beyond tired, I feel nauseated… I can’t wait to get there.
2 PM – Tokyo
Off the plane, finally! I feel like I might want to kiss the ground once we get off. And it’s HOT! Whoa.
7:05 PM – Tokyo
We are in our hotel. We’ve just spent 1h in the hotel’s “onsen” for two – nothing solves problems like a really hot bath overlooking Tokyo’s cityscape. We ate corner-store meal just before, and now the lights are off and Travis is most likely already asleep. Outside, it’s pitch dark. It feels like it should be 9 PM instead.
We’re here. We’ve made it. It’s real but mostly surreal. It hasn’t sunk in yet. The honeymoon has started.
